International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (UNEVOC)
The Common Core standards promotes the idea that children need to be "work force ready" and to compete in a global world, and these standards will accomplish that task.
Well, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) fully supports this concept through their UNEVOC program, otherwise known as Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
Their data base for collection of information on the United States of America is not yet available but is being collected. In their "promising practices database" they "promote the role of TVET in the world of work and sustainable development".
Here is one video explaining TVET:
Education is there to prepare young people for life and work
Access to the right skills to become an active citizen and participate in economic & social development
Countries develop an active and informed workforce to compete in the globalized world
Supports governments to guide education systems towards quality, equity, relevance, sustainability to meet needs of people and labor market.
It doesn't seem there is room for a child to explore their own interests, it will now be based on the needs identified for them, just like Common Core.
