Walmart is a business partner with the United Nations (UN). In Agenda 21 businesses are used to influence human behavior, product selection, and redistribution of wealth. There is another way in which businesses are being used. Chapter 30 covers businesses.
30.7. Governments, business and industry, including transnational corporations, should strengthen partnerships to implement the principles and criteria for sustainable development
30.12. Industry should incorporate cleaner production policies in its operations and investments, taking also into account its influence on suppliers and consumers
30.14. Industry and business associations should encourage individual companies to undertake programmes for improved environmental awareness and responsibility at all levels to make these enterprises dedicated to the task of improving environmental performance based on internationally accepted management practices
30.18. The following objectives are proposed:
(b) To increase the number of entrepreneurs engaged in enterprises that subscribe to and implement sustainable development policies.
What this means is Walmart exerts its UN mandated force onto suppliers. In 2009 Walmart created the Sustainability Index Consortium. What will this do for the small supplier? If unable to meet Walmart's self subscribed rating system how will they be able to compete? China is being pressured to conform to Walmart's environmental requirements. Or will Walmart become the first corporate bully as it did in Ohio? Walmart even has "Standards for Suppliers", see #9.
Perhaps another way of looking at this is the continued Agenda 21 influence over what we buy and the United Nations growing control over America.
