The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has different areas they work on, one of which is education, and there are numerous similarities with Common Core.
Lifelong Learning - "based on integrating learning and life". "Common Core State Standards provide clear and consistent learning goals to help prepare students for college, career, and life." Teachers - ...focuses on developing capacity for training...Improving teacher quality by developing standards for teachers and recommendations for use in policy development. Like every other part of Agenda 21 teachers will have to participate in a certification program to meet a standard. Skills for Work and Life - Common Core has heavy emphasis on being "career ready". Sustainable Development - The U.S. Department of Education has already incorporated Sustainable Development into our education system along with another organization that has a multitude of partners and includes the UN Association. Health Education - Because of Common Core students are now taught on a plethora of health subjects including inappropriate sex education, vaccinations are a hot subject here in Idaho, and kids are scrutinized for the weight and emotional health. ICT Education - Thanks to the adoption of Common Core this UN goal has been met with laptops in our schools, perfect for data collection. Democracy and Global Citizenship - This was the original description, "...supports the integration of education for peace and conflict prevention into national education policy and curriculum...Inclusive quality education is a central to UNESCO’s approach to building citizenship and democracy...". Now their description is "UNESCO focuses on issues such as governance, democratic institutions, citizenship, freedom of expression, representation of young women and men, and their active participation in decision-making processes, in socio-economic and cultural development. The Organization is inherently a place for democratic debate, a platform for exchanges where democratic values are promoted, including tolerance, pluralism, and respect for human rights, freedom and dialogue." Yup, our kids are being indoctrinated towards being a global citizen and that we are a democracy and not a Republic. It seems Idaho Common Core is moving along nicely towards meeting the UN goals for education.
