The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has "themes" for their education goals. Let's see what the progress is for the United States meeting the UNESCO goals through Common Core.
Lifelong Learning Systems - ...provide inclusive education...
implementation of education policies that respond to contemporary challenges, and are relevant for work and all aspects of life...
Common Core is defined as life long is career ready standards and it is nice to know the UN plans to use education systems to educate children in all aspects of life rather than parents.
Teachers - ...focuses on developing capacity for training...Improving teacher quality by developing standards for teachers and recommendations for use in policy development.
Like every other part of Agenda 21 teachers will have to participate in a certification program to meet a standard.
Skills for Work and Life - Common Core has heavy emphasis on "career readiness".
Sustainable Development - The U.S. Department of Education has already incorporated Sustainable Development into our education system.
Health Education - Click on the Focusing Resources on Effective School Health (FRESH) in the second paragraph. This brings up the page on FRESH which identifies 4 program pillars, one of which is "school-based health and nutrition services." Michelle Obama has already put in her healthy school lunch program which has been rejected by students in several states, and more close to home the Meridian School District is building a school health clinic to meet this UN goal. There has also been numerous reports from across the United States about inappropriate sexual education in the schools now.
ICT Education - Tom Luna has made concerted efforts to meet this UN goal to place laptops in the Idaho school system and develop the technology to support that plus the data collection system.
Democracy and Global Citizenship - ...supports the integration of education for peace and conflict prevention into national education policy and curriculum...Inclusive quality education is a central to UNESCO’s approach to building citizenship and democracy...
It seems Idaho Common Core is moving along nicely towards meeting the UN goals for education.
